Located in the heart of Chianti Classico is San Felice. If you thought Tuscany was already picture-postcard stuff wait until you see San Felice! This estate has over 150,000 hectares of vineyards, 15,000 olive trees, a wine cellar, a wine bar, a medieval village, a flash hotel complex and a Vitiarium.

A Vit-what?! The Vitiarium was built in the 1980s with the aim of protecting the genetic heritage of Tuscan viticulture by collecting and classifying over 270 grape varieties. Wine, tourism, culture and a bit of science – San Felice is quite the place!

This is San Felice’s Chianti Classico and if you’re a bit of a novice when it comes to the world of Chianti let’s give you a quick run down.

Pronounced “key-an-tee” – strict Italian wine laws mean grapes must be sourced entirely from one of the 8 Chianti regions and must be made with least 75% of the Sangiovese grape. Deciphering Italian wine labels can be a mission, which is why they have a handy three-tier system of quality. DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) is at the top so you know it’s the flash stuff!

Chianti has several sub regions and Chianti Classico is one of them. Each sub region has different aging requirements with Classico required wines to be aged for a minimum of one year. The more serious styles of Chianti Classico typically come from the villages of Siena, which is where these guys are based.

Dry, medium bodied and ruby red in colour full of red fruits and dried herb flavours – it’s hard not to completely fall head over heels for this style of wine. Drink now to 2030.
