Saltram Mamre Brook Shiraz is one of the Barossa Valley’s household names. And not just for the wine, the Mamre Brook is named after a house!

William Salter moved from England to Australia in 1844 and, with zero building knowledge, managed to knock up a simple six bedroom house with a kitchen. He called it Mamre Brook. When he wasn’t constructing dodgy DIY jobs he was also one of the first to be purchasing land in the Barossa Valley.

By 1859 Salter and his son Edward (known as, wait for it, Salter & Son) planted ten acres of Shiraz at the end of the property. That did mean another quick DIY job to bang up a shed to make the wine in too!

The rest as they say, is history. These days the Mamre Brook Shiraz is one of the most iconic premium labels coming out of the Barossa. This 2018 vintage spent a decent 15 months in oak before release and is made is a classicly big, bold and proud Barossa style.

It’s got solid cellaring potential too of a good 15 plus years from vintage.
