These guys are as passionate about producing awesome Pinot (Noir & Gris!) as they are about protecting the native bird species they’ve named them after.
Peregrine are big sponsors of the Wingspan Birds of Prey Trust, who take care of injured and orphaned birds of prey. The Saddleback (or Tieke) is a native NZ bird once thought to be extinct – being a bird that fed off the ground its numbers took a hammering no thanks to introduced predators like dirty old rats, cats and stoats.
It’s also the name of Peregrine’s wicked secondary label that gives many of its rivals a real lesson in value for money.
This is the totally gorgeous looking (and tasting!) Rosé that was previously exclusively for the restaurant and bar trade – but is now available for stashing in your own fridge at home. And you’ll be bloody glad about it too.
The latest ’22 vintage is a thing of beauty. Scoring a whopping 95/100 and a Top Value Award with Master of Wine Bob Campbell, who said “A delicate floral (rose petal?) aroma leads to floral and summer berry characters on the palate. The wine has a deliciously ethereal texture. An initial hint of sweetness transforms to a delicately dry finish. A totally charming rosé”.
The perfect balance between juicy, bright summer berry and cherry fruit flavours and a dryish finish.
