Pepperjack Cabernet Sauvignon is a Barossa label that needs little introduction. It’s got a cult following with the Aussie red hardcore and produced by a winery with a massive rep (Saltrams) Pepperjack has been a firm favourite on both sides of the ditch for a number of years.
Those that love their reds rich and flavoursome won’t be disappointed here. Using selected parcels of Cabernet fruit from around the Barossa region, aged 12 months in oak, it’s all plush, dark berry fruits and black currants. This is what you’d call pretty much the classic modern Barossa style red!
This latest 2021 vintage scored 91/100 in James Halliday’s Wine Companion – “A rich and satisfying Barossa Valley cabernet sauvignon at a great pricepoint. Matured in seasoned and new oak for 12 months. Plentiful blackberry and cassis notes set on a base of dark spice with hints of mint, dried herbs and earth. Packed full of varietal flavour with a curtain of chalky tannin and a plush, dark-fruited exit. Always excellent value.”
The Pepperjack crew are big on pairing their reds with the right slab of red meat – try this with a slow roasted lamb shoulder with a herb crust.
