We’re not just liking the Linke, we’re loving the Linke. Linke Barossa Valley Shiraz is big, full-on, luxuriously velvety smooth, rich and opulent with a tonne of flavour. This has it all!
The previous releases have been a big hit – and we mean it! Warning – this Barossa number packs a punch at a whopping 16.1% alcohol (yes you did read that right, 16.1%!). But you’d hardly tell given it slides down easier than a pair of velvet pants! The latest 2020 vintage is out of the traps and it’s another stonker sure to tick the boxes for lovers of this style.
It’s a true whopper of a wine with a whopper 95/100 rating to boot from local critic Sam Kim! Sam said “Bold and brooding with power-packed flavours, it’s richly expressed on the nose showing dark fruit intensity, mocha, cedar and cake spice aromas, followed by a concentrated palate offering lavish mouthfeel and silky tannins. Opulent and plush with a prolonged velvety finish. At its best: now to 2034.”
So who are they? Linke are a 5th generation German farming family who settled in the Barossa Valley. They’re 3rd generation grape growers and since 2002 have been produced their own label, Linke.
For 30 years they’ve been providing their fruit to the famous St Hallett’s winery and also to Langmeil since they started in the mid 90s. So there’s some quality fruit on show that’s for sure.
This label is produced from their Stonewell Block, from vines that are 21 years old. It’s given 18 months in American oak – which is what helps to give it its glorious velvety smooth, vanilla like characters. Delicious from whoa to go and worth every bean at this price!
