Greywacke (yes, it’s pronounced grey-wacky) is the family wine label of the Judds. You’ll find Greywacke HQ in Omaka, Marlborough producing world class Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and other styles from organically farmed sites.

Head of the family is Kevin Judd – an absolute winemaking legend in his own right and pretty handy with a camera too! Kevin has pursued a parallel career as a photographer and has published several books including “The Landscape of New Zealand Wine”, “The Colour of Wine” and (our favourite) “Wine Dogs New Zealand”.

Born in England and raised in Aussie, Judd moved to NZ in 1983 and would later become the founding winemaker of Cloudy Bay and go on to produce the first 25 vintages.

“Keep it simple and hands-on” – that’s the Greywacke way of thinking. Trust us, the wines are anything but simple! Best known for their world class Sauvignon Blanc, this is the 2021 release of their oak aged, Wild Sauvignon Blanc which has the rave reviews we’ve come to expect from this extremely classy label…

95/100 & Top Rank (Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review)
“Sophisticated, complex barrel-fermented sauvignon blanc. It is easy to see why this label has attracted a cult following—it is different, distinctive and very appealing. Impressively textural wine that retains its varietal identity while offering so much more than simple fruit flavours”

96/100 (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)
“Intense bouquet with spicy and balsamic notes pointing towards wild fermentation, quite ‘out there’—but also recognisably sauvignon blanc—while the palate is rich and refined at the same moment, rounded and ample with seamless acidity and a clean, dry but soft, resonating aftertaste that rolls on and on. A hint of sweetness mid-palate is nicely balanced at the finish, where there’s a touch of alcohol warmth. A superb example of the variety, produced with inventive winemaking”

A seriously good example of oak aged Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now to 2031.
