These guys only release their sleek looking Elephant Hill Reserve Syrah when the quality hits the mark. When they say that, they mean it. These guys set the bar pretty high when it comes to quality. That might be something to do with their German owners, Roger and Reydan Weiss, that spare no expense in running this state of the art winery located on the stunning Te Awanga coastline, and boasts one of the finest winery restaurants in NZ!
They’re pretty picky about when they do or don’t release anything under their Reserve label, in their own words “The 10th Anniversary of the Elephant Hill Reserve Syrah. The outstanding 2018 vintage has shown great results across Hawkes Bay and this new release is a wine we are proud to call our 10th Edition of the Elephant Hill Reserve Syrah.”
Produced using grapes from their Gimblett Gravels vineyard, aged for 18 months in oak, this is a dense, concentrated Syrah with serious cellaring potential.
Scoring 93/100 with The Real Review’s Bob Campbell MW, who called it “From Elephant Hill’s Gimblett Gravels and coastal Te Awanga vineyards. Dense, weighty syrah with dark berry, plum, dried herb, pepper and dark chocolate flavours. A concentrated wine that can be enjoyed now but will develop well with bottle age (cellar to 2029).”
Such is the demand for this wine Elephant Hill have to dish it out on allocation – limited release, highly sought after, secure your stash of this very special red now!
