They’re New Zealand’s most awarded and trusted winery so you can rest assure anything from Villa’s “Single Vineyard” range is pretty slick stuff.
Their Villa Maria Single Vineyard Seddon Pinot Noir from their world class Seddon vineyard on the southern side of Marlborough’s Awatere river. Using fruit from a specific sub section within the vineyard, close to the river and planted in 1998, and aged 14 months in oak this is the very best Pinot Noir from this vineyard. And it comes with some pretty high praise too…
5 Stars, 96/100 (Sam Kim)
“Stunningly elegant and fine, the wine shows red cherry, raspberry, floral, toasted nut and thyme characters, combined with silky-smooth palate that’s seamlessly flowing and lingering. Wonderfully proportioned and harmonious with seductive complexity.”
4 1/2 Stars (Michael Cooper)
“Invitingly scented and vibrantly fruity, in a medium to full-bodied style with youthful cherry, plum and spice flavours, savoury notes adding complexity, fresh acidity and ripe, supple tannins. Best drinking 2023+.”
93/100 (Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review)
“Moderately light, supple, sinewy pinot noir with gentle cherry, floral, violet and rose petal flavours, together with a subtle seasoning of fresh herbs and spices.”
There’s no rush here with cellar potential up to 2029.
