Mills Reef Elspeth Cabernet Merlot
Mills Reef’s flagship range – Elspeth (named after the winemaker’s Grandmother, Elspeth Preston) sits right up there with Hawke’s Bay’s wine elite. If it’s Elspeth slapped on the label you know you’ve got one classy little number in your hot little hands!
Hand picked fruit from their Mere Road vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels and only released under the Elspeth label when the Mills Reef crew feel the quality is top notch. There would have been no doubt at all that Elspeth would be released in 2018, another solid vintage in Hawke’s Bay!
A classic Bordeaux blend of premium Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes from their Mere Road vineyard. Scoring 93/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell, who said “Attractive red with bright fruit flavours in the style of Gimblett Gravels. Fresh, precise, and medium-bodied with fine, powdery tannins. Solid, accessible and pleasingly intense wine.”
Drink now or chuck some in the cellar until around 2030.
