Manda Huevos – “Send Eggs!”. Well that’s what we thought it meant (the literal translation), but actually it’s the Spanish phrase for the equivalent of “For crying out loud” or “Come on!” or as the English might say “Oh bollocks!”
Manda Huevos is the work of Master of Wine Norrel Robertson – aka “El Escocés Volante” aka The Flying Scotsman! Born in Scotland but plying his trade in Spain. He studied Post-Grad Viticulture in New Zealand and he’s the only Master of Wine based in Spain (the world’s 3rd largest wine producer).
This is an extremely classy old vine Garnacha (around 90%) with the rest of the blend being Garnacha Blanca, Moristel and Bobal. The fruit comes from two vineyards, Caña Andrea Arriba and Caña Andrea Abajo, which were planted in 1908 and 1970 so you’re looking at vine age of between 50-110 years!
Think of this like a Spanish Châteauneuf-du-Pape! The best way we can think to describe this wine is like an iron fist wrapped in a velvet glove – it’s got depth and power and real finesse. Think ripe red fruits, licorice, pepper and spice with juicy tannins. Very limited with only 330 dozen produced globally.
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
