It might sound like the intro to a new blockbuster Hollywood movie but it’s actually the a wine release from George Wyndham wines across the ditch. George was a bit of a legend so it would be fair enough if they were putting his story on the big screen.

He was the father to twelve sons, two daughters and Australian Shiraz. He traveled from the UK to a strange new land sailing through ferocious storms. He planted Australia’s first commercial vineyard of Shiraz way back in 1830. His Wyndham Estate has gone on to be one of the most iconic South Australian producers – in tipping their hat to the man and the legend they’ve changed the name of the winery from Wyndham Estate to simply “George Wyndham”.

Using fruit from the Limestone Creek sub region of South Australia this Cabernet and Merlot blend got the thumbs up from The Real Review’s Huon Hooke.

Scoring it 90/100 Huon said “Deep red colour with a tinge of purple. The bouquet fresh and cassisy, with a tinge of mint, and lots of berry aromas and flavours…It has the makings of a fine bottle. It just needs time (2021-2031)”

George wasn’t the kind of bloke to muck about – if he were around today he’d be telling you to get this one open with a big cut of grilled or barbecued beef. Done.
