What was once a stony sheep paddock back in the 80s (bought by a stash of cash from the sale of herd cows) has become one of Martinborough’s premier wine labels, up there with best of Aotearoa and a glowing international reputation to boot.
This is the Ata Rangi Potiki Chardonnay. Potiki means ‘last born’ in Maori and that’s because some of the fruit used for this label are from some of the newer plantings, some are from more established blocks on their Martinborough Terrace.
Scoring 93/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell, Bob said “Creamy-textured wine with peach, ginger, vanilla, struck flint and spicy oak flavours. Tangy wine with good weight and an appealing texture and a backbone of peppery phenolics. Good now but promises to develop well with bottle age.”
