Being NZ’s most awarded winery you come to expect anything under their premium Reserve black label to be glittered in awards…and hey presto they’ve done it again!
They’ve used the best parcels of fruit from their Gimblett Gravels vineyards to produce their top example of Merlot. And this 2020 vintage in Hawke’s Bay was part of a trio of awesome vintages (2019, 2020 and 2021).
The winemaker waffles on about its perfumed aromatics of red and black plum, fruitcake and floral violet notes, interwoven with roasted coffee bean and complex herb nuances. We just thought if you’re into Merlot and are prepared to spend a bit more, you’re getting a top top wine for your money here.
It’s got potential to go for 7-8 years from vintage so make sure you drink some now, cellar some for later.
