Some plonker once said “O is for Awesome” but Chardonnay guzzlers from back in the day will probably remember Montana’s “O” Chardonnay from Gisborne, which really was very awesome. A classic big, buttery and bold Gizzy Chardonnay in a glass! Well if you remember that awesome drop you’re going to love Spade Oak The Co-Ordinates Chardonnay (a label formerly known as Spade Oak The Prospect Chardonnay – exactly the same wine with a change of name!).
That’s because it’s made entirely from fruit from that very same Ormond Road vineyard in Gisborne….by the same winemaker from back in the day too!
That’s Steve Voysey. And for years he was making wine for the big boys (Montana) by making the Letter “O” for Ormond and “P” for Patutahi (Gewurztraminer) but these days he’s making letters of another kind. V for Voysey.
These day Voysey’s main focus is on his own label, Spade Oak, and quite clearly loving every minute of it. “There is a world of difference between waving goodbye to your fruit as it’s driven away in a truck and seeing things all the way through to a bottle of wine with your name on it.”
No shortcuts here. It’s 100% barrel fermented, rich, creamy, peachy, bold and buttery Gisborne Chardonnay in a glass. As Steve puts it simply – “Chardonnay’s what made Gisborne famous and one sip of this and you’ll see why”
