Yalumba Y Series Tempranillo. The question isn’t Y? It’s Y-wouldn’t ya?!

Winner of the Trophy for Champion Single Varietal Red at the recent New World Wine Awards 2022 to go with the Gold medal and 95/100 rating from the judging panel. This is bang for buck that’s off the charts!

One hundred and sixty years and five generations of family wine making – you don’t get to call yourself Australia’s oldest family owned winery unless you’re doing something seriously right. For their Yalumba Y Series Tempranillo (pronounced temp-rah-knee-oh) they’ve used grapes from across the South Australia region to craft this Champion red. This may be known as Spain’s number one grape – but here’s how the Aussies can do it just as well at a price to boot!

The result? A deliciously fruit-driven red, bursting with rich, dark berry fruit flavours and a silky, velvety finish. As the judges put it nicely – “Australia’s oldest family-owned winery, Yalumba offers everyday Y Series wines all the way up to their ultra-premium icons, and delivers excellent value at every level. This Champion Single Variety Red is plump and fruit-forward showing Black Doris plum, olive and subtle spice nuances combined with fleshy texture and silky-smooth tannins.”

What an absolute treat to score a Trophy, Gold and 95/100 rated red that’s priced like a midweek quaffer. Hook in with absolute confidence on this one.
