Elephant Hill are a Hawke’s Bay producer with class and style. They set the bar sky high when it comes to quality. That might be something to do with their German owners, Roger and Reydan Weiss, that spare no expense in running this state of the art winery located on the stunning Te Awanga coastline, and boast one of the finest winery restaurants in NZ!
So when the Elephant crew came to craft this 100% Hawke’s Bay Merlot there was only ever going to be one outcome. All class baby!
Made from estate grown, hand picked grapes from their Gimblett Gravel and Triangle vineyards, this scored an impressive 94/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell who said “From the Gimblett and Triangle vineyards. Dense and quite concentrated merlot with dark berry, cassis and smoky oak flavours. An impressive wine that offers value at this price. Delicious now.”
As Bob says, it’s utterly delicious right now but this has got potential to be tucked in the cellar for a good 8-10 years.
