First released in 1962 the now iconic (and always seriously bloody good!) Penfolds Bin 128 label remains one of the most sought after in the premium Penfolds Bin range.
Almost 60 years on since its debut release and Bin 128 remains today a Shiraz from the Coonawarra region of South Australia. With its unique terra rossa red clay over limestone soils this cool climate region is a great contrast to others in the Penfolds Bin line-up like the warm climate Bin 28 Shiraz.
This is the latest 2021 release and it is an absolute beauty – a must-try for the Penfolds lover for sure!
95/100 & Top Rank (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)
“Very deep, dark, brooding red/black/purple colours; amazing blackberry and iodine, graphite and violets on the nose, powerful and leaping from the glass. Very deep flavour, fills the mouth and has breadth as well as depth. A riot of fragrances here. Full bodied, supple and fleshy in the tannin department, with a lovely supple finish. Soft acidity. A stunningly good Bin 128.”
95/100 (James Halliday’s Wine Companion)
“Shiraz from a strong Coonawarra vintage matured in French oak hogsheads (21% new and 22% one-year-old) for 12 months. A strong showing from Bin 128 with this release with plush dark and blue berry fruits with hints of panforte, fine spice, graphite, black pepper, pencil case, roasting meats and earth. There is something comforting and familiar within the wine’s aromas and flavours. Medium bodied, long and fine with excellent balance, energy and structure finishing elegant and pure.”
