First to climb Everest. First to give women the vote. First to bungy jump. First to produce a low alcohol Pinot Noir. Introducing The Doctors Pinot Noir, the world’s first low alcohol Pinot Noir (under 10% alcohol – this wine is 9.5%).
John and Brigid Forrest are The Doctors (yep, they’re real doctors!) and they’ve been leaders in producing quality, lower alcohol wines. There’s the massively popular Doctors Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé.
Making low alcohol red wine with full flavour is damn tricky. Naturally if a wine is lower in alcohol it means less of the grape’s sugars have converted to alcohol. But there’s clearly huge demand and potential – even the NZ Government has thrown a cheeky $17 million into research for future production of low alcohol red wine.
It’s been a bit of a mission for the Forrests’ with trials and experiments along the way. No dodgy whizz bang tricks in the lab or genetic engineering. Just sustainably grown, naturally produced lower alcohol Pinot.
Their second ever release of this label is a soft, bright and very slightly sweet style Pinot.
