One hundred and sixty years and five generations of family wine making – you don’t get to call yourself Australia’s oldest family owned winery unless you’re doing something seriously right. We’re talking about Yalumba, a member of the Australia’s First Families of Wine, the 12 founding family owned wineries across the ditch.
This is their famous “Y Series” range. And as we often say about this range, Y the hell wouldn’t ya. Year after year these wines offer incredible bang for your buck and this 2020 release Cabernet Sauvignon has got value in spades.
Scoring 87/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell, he called it “Medium-bodied, savoury red with a little more intensity and weight than the Y Series merlot tasted alongside. Charcuterie and bacon flavours with baked earth, malt in the background. Offers value at this price ($18)”
An easy going style that’ll be pretty versatile when it comes to pairing with a feed. It’s actually a great style red to pair with some greasy takeaways – try a cheeseburger with mushroom and caramelized onions!
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
