Produced by Angove in the McLaren Vale, South Australia. They were formed by a Doctor (Dr William Angove) who moved to Australia from Cornwall in the UK in the 1880s. He believed that good wine was essential for fine health and a sound mind. So there you go, doctor’s orders!
This is what they call their ‘Family Crest’ range so there’s a bit of family pride is on the line whenever they bottle something under this label.
Using fruit from a couple of their McLaren Vale vineyards (Blewitt Springs and Seaview to the north, Sellicks Hill and Willunga to the south) and aged 15 months in oak. This latest 2020 release scored 92/100, a Top Value Award AND a Top Rank Award with Stuart Knox in the Real Review. He called it “A lot of wine at the price.”
This is a high quality, deep, dark and brooding style McLaren Shiraz that is good to go now but you’ll be rewarded for tucking some away in the cellar, try up until around 2033.
