One of the flagship wines from one of Hawke’s Bay’s flagship producers. We’re talking about Trinity Hill and their Homage Syrah and if you’re looking at getting a collection together of the best of the best of what New Zealand reds can offer, this guy should be in your list. Undoubtedly one of NZ’s finest red wines and only released in the best of vintages.
“Our inspiration for Syrah and this wine, comes from the wines of the Northern Rhone region of France, particularly Hermitage and Cote Rotie. We will only release Homage if we think it is up to our high standards. From the first release until the current vintage, we have released wines from only the 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 vintages.”
It’s a must-try-before-you-die New Zealand red, one for the collectors or those with an expensive taste for the very top shelf stuff! As you’d expect a wine of this class it’s had seriously high scores from the cream of the crop of wine writers…
98/100 & Top Rank (Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review)
“Deep-tinted, fine-grained red with cassis, black doris plum, black pepper, dark chocolate, coffee, wood smoke and oriental spices. A complex wine with a wonderful texture and lingering finish. Delicious now but shows promising cellaring potential. (77% from Gimblett Gravels with the balance from a hillside vineyard neighbouring the Gimblett Gravels. Fermented with 1% viognier.) “
The bottle comes presented in Trinity Hill branded tissue paper. Drink now or comfortably tuck away in the cellar until 2040.
